Jamyangling Handicraft School
The Jamyangling Handicraft School in Katseel began in 2001. The idea was to create a school for students who had not passed their college standardized tests, but who had talent and interest in handicrafts.

The purpose of the handicraft school is to provide a qualifying education to those children who feel strongly motivated to preserve the Tibetan culture. The main subjects which are offered at the school are traditional Tibetan painting, wood carving and sewing.

With the training taking four years, the first group of 25 students completed their education in 2006. It has been great for our students, which is not only dependent on their strong motivation andd hard work but also due to their teachers’ excellent skills. It is not easy these days to find people with solid expertise in these areas, but the school has been extremely fortunate.

Today the school’s second group of 62 students are soon to be done with their training. There are plans to expand the school and to increae the number students in the next batch to approximately 100.

The school has fortunately been self sustaining through the selling of their products.
