108 Schools
The association's first school project in the village of Katsel gave rise to many requests from Tibetans who saw school as something fantastic and wanted to have similar actions throughout Tibet.

It was from there that the idea of additional schools arose and the 108 School Project began, in 1996. During the following years, the building and restoration of schools and libraries took place in many locations far out on Tibet’s countryside.

As distances are great in Tibet, some schools were located in remote areas where one could only get to by foot or horseback. The construction of schools for the 108 School Project was financed through private donations and grants from SIDA.

In 2006, the schools were completed and the Swedish-Tibetan Society for School and Culture had reached their goal - 108 schools in Tibet's countryside!
